Visiting Park Güell - Barcelona

Park Güell is located in La Salut, a neighborhood in the Gracia district of Barcelona and is one of Barcelona’s top attractions.

I did not have the opportunity to visit the park on my last two visits to Barcelona so it was at the top of my to-do list this time.

While Park Guell has free entry all day, the Park Guell Monumental Zone requires tickets though I have read that you can visit the Monumental Zone for free at certain times of the year.  Even without purchasing tickets, there is a lot to see and worth the visit.

By the time we arrived at the park, the ticket lines were long..... very, very long. On top of that, it looked like it was going to start raining at any moment so we decided that we would see what we could before the rain began.

If you decide you want to purchase tickets, get them in advance so you can make the most of your time. At the time of my visit,  the tickets were 10€ but I believe they have recently increased to 15€. Children under the age of six get in for free while there are discounts for children under twelve and adults over the age of sixty-five. You can find more information here.

GETTING THERE

I always use the hop on hop off tourist when visiting Barcelona (Barcelona Bus Turistic).  It is so easy to use and the maps make navigating the city easy.

Most of the time, the bus stops is near or in front of an attraction. With this stop, there was a 10-15 minute walk up hill to get to the park so do your research if you have mobility issues.

Bring water and wear comfortable shoes. This probably goes without saying but you will be doing a lot of walking so make sure you are comfortable and stay hydrated. It was cool when we were there but in the heat of summer, you will need something to drink.

Give yourself time to explore the park.  There is a large area to cover and a lot of opportunities for some great photos.

We did not arrive early in the morning like most websites suggest.  It just did not work out that way for us but we still had a great time and had the opportunity to see everything available without a ticket.

The area with the people are the stairs in the photo above.  This is a paid area so we did not get to see this part of the park from the inside but you can see it through the gate from the outside and can take photos from that location.
