When we asked locals about the prettiest beaches in Malta, Golden Bay was a name that kept coming up. Located along Malta’s northwestern coast, Golden Bay is known for its wide stretch of golden sand, beautiful Mediterranean water, and surrounding hills.
Compared with many of Malta’s rocky swimming spots, Golden Bay has a true sandy beach, which helps make it one of the island’s more popular places for swimming and spending the day by the water. The beach is also relatively easy to access and has restaurants and other facilities nearby..jpg)
We didn't spend much time here. Golden Bay was more of a sightseeing stop for us—we walked around, took a few photos, enjoyed the view, and then continued on with our day.
Even during our short visit, I could understand why the locals had recommended it. The combination of the sandy shoreline, blue water, and rugged landscape surrounding the bay made it a beautiful place to photograph.

Golden Bay at Sunset
Golden Bay faces west, making it an especially popular place to watch the sunset. We didn't stay late enough to see it ourselves, but friends of mine stayed for sunset and absolutely loved it.
If I were visiting again and had more time, I would probably plan my visit for later in the afternoon and stay to watch the sun go down over the Mediterranean.
Visiting Golden Bay
Golden Bay is located on the northwestern coast of Malta, near the village of Mellieħa. Its sandy shoreline and easier access make it a good option for travelers who want a more traditional beach experience while visiting Malta.
During the warmer months, it can become quite busy, so arriving earlier in the day may be worthwhile if you're planning to spend several hours here.
