This wasn't a planned stop and I'm not sure how we even ended up here but I'm so glad we did. This is one of the places that a photographer dreams of. Of course, you can never capture it's actual beauty but at least I will have photos to remind me of this particular spot along the North Shore.

The massive concrete dock dates back to 1905 when Hovland was a thriving economic hub and the dock served as a loading/unloading site for passenger and cargo ships that traveled between Duluth and Canada, and all the way out to the ocean.
There is a small area where you can park and walk out onto the dock. Apparently at one time they had planned to restore this are but it never happened.
You will find this sign near the dock.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM DULUTH
It's about 2 1/2 hours out of Duluth.....
Head southwest on W 1st St toward N 2nd Ave W
479 ft
Turn left at the 2nd cross street onto N 2nd Ave W
0.1 mi
Turn left onto W Michigan St
0.3 mi
Take the ramp onto I-35 N
2.2 mi
Take exit 259 to merge onto MN-61 N/W Hwy 61/London Rd toward North Shore
