I have been to Universal Studios 7 times and thought I had a pretty good idea of everything it offered. I was surprised to find out that there were hidden areas and little details I had not noticed in the past.
Whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth, here are 10 things you may not know you could do at Universal Studios Orlando.
1. Talk to the Shrunken Head on the Knight Bus
Just outside Diagon Alley, you’ll find the Knight Bus parked with its conductor and a very chatty shrunken head. They’ll talk to you, respond to what you say, and keep the jokes going. It’s one of the most interactive moments in the park — and totally unexpected!
2. Cast Real Spells in Diagon Alley
If you buy an interactive wand (or bring your own from a previous visit), look for the medallions on the ground. Each one marks a magical spot where you can perform a spell — and yes, things really move in the windows. Some are tricky, which makes them even more fun to master.
3. The Disappearing Wall at Platform 9 3/4
As you make your way up the stairs inside King’s Cross Station, keep an eye out for signs directing you to Platforms 9 and 10. As you near Platform 9¾, the queue will split — and this is where the magic happens. Just before you walk through the glass-paneled corridor, pause and look ahead through the window. If you're standing at just the right angle, you’ll see other guests appearing to walk straight through a brick wall. It’s a clever illusion — and one most people miss because they’re rushing to the train.
4. Choose Your Own Music on Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
I am a big chicken and have not ridden this but you are supposed to be able to pick your soundtrack before takeoff. Universal has trimmed the main song list to five tracks, one per genre.
5. ET Says Your Name at the End of the Ride
Yes, ET Adventure is still here — and if you give your name before boarding, he’ll say goodbye to you personally at the end.
6. Wander Through the Spooky Knockturn Alley
Just off Diagon Alley is a dark, eerie alley where the lights dim and the temperature drops. There are secret spell spots, creepy shop windows, and a whole lot of spooky ambiance. It’s easy to miss — and so worth finding.
7. Catch Amazing Street Performances
8. Dial MAGIC in the London Phone Booth
Step into the red phone booth outside Diagon Alley and dial 62442 (that’s M-A-G-I-C). A special message from the Ministry of Magic will play — a magical moment hidden in plain sight.
9. Stay Cool with Free Ice Water
Hot day? Any quick-service restaurant will give you a free cup of ice water if you ask or you bring your own cup and fill up a water stations throughout the park.
10. Relax by the San Francisco Waterfront
Final Thoughts:
Universal Studios Orlando is packed with big thrills, but it’s the hidden details that made my day extra magical. As I get older, I find that I enjoy these little treasures more than the thrilling rides.
