Walking into Dark Universe at Universal Epic Universe feels like entering another world—one filled with mystery, shadows, and legendary monsters brought to life. Inspired by Universal’s classic horror characters, this land has a completely different atmosphere from the bright, futuristic feel of Celestial Park.
I wasn't sure what to expect from Dark Universe before our visit, but it ended up being one of my favorite lands in Epic Universe. The atmosphere is incredible, with towering gothic buildings, spooky details around every corner, and a completely immersive feel. My daughter and grandson absolutely loved Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment—it ended up being one of their favorite rides in the entire park. Between the amazing theming and the unforgettable attraction, Dark Universe was easily one of the highlights of our day.
From the moment you enter the village of Darkmoor, the details immediately pull you in. The weathered buildings, eerie lighting, stone pathways, and gothic architecture make it feel like you’ve stepped into a classic monster movie. It’s the kind of place where you want to slow down and look around because there is something interesting hiding in every corner.

The signature attraction of Dark Universe is Monsters Unleashed: The Frankenstein Experiment, where guests join Dr. Victoria Frankenstein as she attempts to control the power of the legendary monster. Even if you aren’t a huge horror fan, the attraction focuses more on adventure and storytelling than outright fear. It delivers plenty of surprises while still being approachable for guests who enjoy immersive dark rides.

While Dark Universe is impressive during the day, this is a land that truly comes alive after sunset. The darker lighting, glowing details, and eerie atmosphere make wandering through Darkmoor at night an experience all its own.
If you are visiting Epic Universe, I highly recommend returning to Dark Universe after dark. The shadows, lights, and haunting details create a completely different mood than you’ll experience during daylight hours.
