My daughter and I decided we couldn’t go to Italy without going to Pompeii. It’s one of those places you dream about seeing but never think you will. Like most places we visited, I wasn’t prepared for what I was about to experience. Walking through Pompeii gave us the opportunity to study an ancient city frozen in time.

Walking the streets and seeing how much of the city was still intact was awe inspiring, especially when you are standing on these ancient street looking at Mount Vesuvius in the background. The ancient town’s winding roads and walkways, and patchwork of residences in which the wealthy once lived shoulder to shoulder with the poor, can be confusing so grab a map when you purchase your tickets. Yet taking a walk alone with a prerecorded-guide headset or on an escorted tour can provide a thorough view of how this Mediterranean community lived and died nearly 2,000 years ago.
I wasn’t expecting to see all of the beautiful, colorful, mosaics.
Notice how empty many of the streets were. March is a great month to travel to Italy !
I thought this wall was absolutely beautiful.
