GOOSEBERRY FALLS STATE PARK ~ MINNESOTA

Gooseberry Falls was our first stop as we began our drive along Minnesota’s North Shore, and what a spectacular way to start the journey. Located about 13 miles northeast of Two Harbors along Highway 61, Gooseberry Falls State Park is often called the gateway to the North Shore.

We arrived early in the morning, which turned out to be a great decision. There weren't many people around yet, giving us plenty of time to enjoy the falls and take photographs without crowds in the background. The early morning light also made the whole area feel especially peaceful.

If you're visiting Gooseberry Falls with photography in mind, I would definitely recommend making it one of your first stops of the day. As the day goes on, the park can become much busier, especially during popular travel seasons.

The falls themselves are beautiful, with the Gooseberry River rushing over the rocky landscape before making its way toward Lake Superior. There are several places to view the waterfalls, so it's worth taking some time to walk around rather than stopping at just one overlook.

For us, Gooseberry Falls was the perfect introduction to the North Shore. We were just getting started on our drive toward the Canadian border, and I remember thinking that if this was the beginning of the trip, we were in for something pretty special.
