With white-sand beaches, beautiful blue water, swaying sea oats, and incredible sunrises and sunsets, Anna Maria Island is one of the most scenic destinations in the state.
This seahorse-shaped, 7-mile-long barrier island is surrounded by the sparkling Gulf of Mexico on the west and the deep blue bay waters to the east. It has a low-key Old Florida vibe with no high rise buildings to block the view and where, at times, golf carts out number automobiles.
My favorite part of Anna Maria island is the North end. Lodging is plentiful and you are within walking distance of several beaches.
One of the prettiest and least crowded beaches is Bean Point. Probably because there is no parking lot or lifeguards at this private stretch of beach. It is also one of the best spots on Anna Maria Island to watch the sunrise and sunset.
You can find entrances to Bean Point on the intersection of Gladiolus Street and North Shore Drive and Fern Street and North Shore Drive, with marked signs noting beach access points.
