BARCELONA ~ Spain (Olympic Village)

When I saw that the Olympic stadium was on the bus route we took in Barcelona, I knew I had to make it one of our stops. I have never been to an Olympic event and probably will never make it to one but I do remember watching the Barcelona Olympics on TV.

It was like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.  It wasn't on my bucket list of places to see but if you are going to be near the area,  you shouldn't miss seeing such iconic sites.

Originally built in 1927 for the 1929 International Exposition in the city (and Barcelona's bid for the 1936 Summer Olympics, which were awarded to Berlin), it was renovated in 1989 to be the main stadium for the 1992 Summer Olympics The stadium has a capacity of 54,000 (67,007 during the 1992 Olympics), and is located in the Anella Olímpica, in Montjuïc, a large hill to the southwest of the city which overlooks the harbor.

As we made out way back to the bus, we ran across the Accliatizatioin Garden (Jardin d'Acclimatation).  It was a beautiful spot to rest and it had public WiFi.

This garden is home to around 230 species of plants, some of them unique or rare in Barcelona.
