MONTSERRAT ~ Spain

The best part of a vacation is the memories you create and the people you meet.  My daughter and I were lucky enough to meet this wonderful couple from Arizona.  We went on several excursions with them, but we parted ways at some of the ports.  One of these ports was Barcelona.

After we returned to the states, she was kind enough to share her photos with me.  Below are some of the photos she took of Montserrat which is a beautiful Benedictine monk mountain retreat about one hour North West from Barcelona by train.

Here is Rhonda, the sweet lady we met on the cruise ship.

Not only is Montserrat Monastery of significant religious importance but the natural beauty surrounding the monastery is simply breathtaking.

Santa Maria de  Monsterrat is a Benedictine abbey located on the mountain of Montserrat, in Monistrol de Montserrat, in Catalonia, Spain.

The major work of renowned architect, Gaudi, the Sagrada Familia (Church of the Sacred Family) is a magnificent and unique architectural structure, prompting many critics to pronounce it the only church like it in the world.  Almost as famous as the church itself is how long they have been building the place.  Only about a quarter completed as of Gaudi's death, this iconic landmark is still unfinished to this day,  although 2026 is the current targeted date.  If that does end up being the case, the Sagrada Famillia will have taken an incredible 144 years to complete.
