AMAZING BLACK BEACH IN MINNESOTA (With Video)

When researching beaches along the North Shore of Minnesota, Black Beach kept showing up as a "must visit" beach.  Most of the directions said you would need to park by the road and walk to the beach.  It is privately owned and even fenced in an effort to keep visitors out.  Apparently it didn't work and they gave up the effort because the area is now open to the public.

I'm always looking for different colors of beaches and every once in awhile you will run across a pink beach or black beach so I was excited to find this beach.

I read that the black color here is due to the taconite (a low-grade iron ore consisting largely of chert, occurring in the US chiefly around Lake Superiormining present here, dating back to a time when for 25 years, unusable taconite waste was dumped into the lake.

If you are traveling anywhere near the Duluth area, put Black Beach on your "must see" list.

GETTING THERE

Since Black Beach is now open to the public, it's pretty easy to find.  Unlike most of the places we visited, there was no long hike to get to the beach.

The beach is off Hwy 61 and is located below Silver Bay - 18 miles north of Beaver Bay.

The address given online is :  E Lakeview Drive, Water Plant Rd, Silver Bay, MN 55614
