BAPTISM RIVER BEACH ( VIDEO)

This was one of my favorite places that we visited.  There was no waterfalls but it was such a quiet and peaceful place.  I joined another couple as we skipped rocks across the water, something I had not done in many years.

If I had to choose one place to take my family swimming, it would be this place.  It is located 58 miles northeast of Duluth and about 4 1/2 miles northeast of Silver Bay on U.S. Highway 61.

Once you park your vehicle, you will need to travel down a path to reach the beach.

One of the reasons I love this place so much is that you have the beach to Lake Superior on one side  and  this nice, calm  river area on the other side.  Separating the two is a lovely beach where the Baptist River runs out to the Lake.

This is touted as a  hiker's paradise with miles of trails that overlook the Sawtooth Mountains and wind down to inland lakes accessible only by foot.

There is a new visitor center and rest area up from this river area.   It features an interpretive area, a gift shop, restrooms, and spaces that can be rented for weddings or other events.
