Exploring Ginnie Springs: A Natural Escape in Florida

 

Ginnie Springs is one of Florida’s stunning springs, famous for its crystal-clear waters and peaceful river views. It’s also a popular spot for scuba diving. During our visit in January, we didn’t see many campers, but we did spot a few scuba divers exploring the springs.

Highlights of Ginnie Springs

Crystal-Clear Springs: The main draw of Ginnie Springs is its pristine, turquoise-colored springs that bubble up from the underground aquifer. The water is so clear that you can see all the way to the sandy bottom, making it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving.

Adventurous souls can also explore the underwater caves that dot the area, providing a thrilling dive experience for certified cave divers.

Picnicking and Camping: Whether you prefer to relax with a picnic under the shade of towering oak trees or immerse yourself in the natural surroundings with a night under the stars, Ginnie Springs provides ample camping and picnic areas. There are options for both tent camping and RV camping, with facilities that include restrooms, showers, and even a camp store for essentials.

Wildlife Encounters: Keep your eyes peeled for native wildlife such as river otters, turtles, and various bird species that call Ginnie Springs home. The area is also frequented by gentle manatees during the cooler months, offering a rare opportunity to observe these majestic creatures up close.

• Location: Ginnie Springs is located near High Springs, Florida, approximately 40 miles northwest of Gainesville. The park is easily accessible by car and offers ample parking for visitors.

• Operating Hours: The park is open year-round, with daily operating hours from sunrise to sunset. Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis, so it's advisable to arrive early during peak seasons or holidays.

• Entry Fees: There is an admission fee per vehicle, which includes access to the park and its facilities. Additional fees may apply for activities such as tubing rentals or cave diving permits.

• Facilities: Ginnie Springs provides basic amenities such as restrooms, showers, and picnic areas. The camp store offers snacks, drinks, and camping supplies for added convenience.

• Children 15 and under are required to have adult supervision at all times.
• No pets allowed. 
• Divers must register prior to diving. 
• Swim at your own risk. No lifeguards on duty. 
• No camping in common areas surrounding springs. 
• No glass in common areas or river.
