Juniper Springs is one of the oldest and best-known recreation areas on the East Coast. Located between Ocala and Ormond Beach along SR 40, this complex of swimming and picnic area, campground and trails was constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. This setting houses hundreds of tiny bubbling springs and massive springs gushing out of crevices in the earth beneath a dense canopy of palms and oaks, an oasis within the heart of the desert-like scrub ecosystem.
Natural Beauty: Juniper Springs is renowned for its crystal-clear spring waters surrounded by lush vegetation and towering palms. It's a picturesque spot, perfect for nature lovers and photographers alike.
Canoeing and Kayaking: You can rent canoes or kayaks to paddle down Juniper Run, a spring-fed creek that meanders through the forest. It's a serene and beautiful way to experience the area.
Swimming and Snorkeling: The spring pool itself is great for swimming and snorkeling. The water remains a refreshing 72 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, making it inviting even in warmer months.
Hiking Trails: There are several hiking trails around the area, including the popular Juniper Springs Trail and the Florida Trail. These trails offer opportunities to explore the unique flora and fauna of the Ocala National Forest.
Historic Millhouse: The Juniper Springs Recreation Area includes a historic millhouse built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). It's a fascinating piece of history amidst the natural beauty.
Camping: Juniper Springs is one of the nation's top destinations for camping, not just because of the many activities available on site but also for its well-shaded setting.
