If you're fortunate enough to find yourself at the Georgetown cruise port, get ready for a day filled with adventure, relaxation, and the warm hospitality that defines this tropical paradise.

TENDERING : All cruise ships will anchor in the bay in George Town and you will take about tender boat to one of the three terminals. Regardless of the Pier/Terminal used, as you walk out the exit gates, the cruise traveler will be on the main road of Harbor Drive.
Transportation: When you get out of the port area, you can either walk around the town and do some shopping, or you can take a tour or do an activity. There are taxis and van type shuttles parked outside of the terminal. Minivans will sometimes require several people to fill the van before they leave. We usually find a group of people standing around the taxi area to see where they are going and ask if they want to share.
As in any port, if you are taking an excursion on your own, take some time and research to choose a reputable vendor or tour company. Here are 13 ideas to get you started on planning your stop in Cayman Islands:
#1 Shopping on Cardinal Avenue: Explore the shops and boutiques on Cardinal Avenue, where you can find duty-free goods, local crafts, and souvenirs.
#2 Visit the Cayman Islands National Museum: Learn about the history and culture of the Cayman Islands by visiting the National Museum, located near the port on Harbour drive. This museum is housed in an 1800’s former government building and has several exhibits that emphasize Grand Cayman’s culture and heritage. Cayman Islands National Museum
#3 Seven Mile Beach: Seven Mile Beach is one of the most famous beaches in the Caribbean and is one of the closest beaches to the cruise port, To get to Seven Mile Beach, simply take a cab or shuttle which is available for a few dollars just outside the cruise port. There are some public buses as well, should you decide to go that route.
#4 Snorkeling and Diving: The Cayman Islands are known for their vibrant coral reefs. You can read about my post about snorkeling at Eden Rock which is just a short walk from the port.
#5 Stingray City: If you chose only one excursion while on your cruise, it should be a trip to Stingray City Sandbar, Grand Cayman. You can take an excursion through the ship but we chose to book with Sun Ray Tours where were sailed to Stingray City in the North Sound aboard their catamaran. #6 Cayman Turtle Centre: One of the most popular attractions in Grand Cayman is the Turtle Farm and wildlife center. It has offers a breeding pond, turtle education center, lagoon where you can swim with fish and sea turtles , a butterfly garden, an aviary, waterslides, Breakers, lagoon, and much more.
#7 Swim with Dolphins: Swimming with dolphins is usually on a bucket list when you are on a cruise. If you are looking for one in the Cayman Islands, there are a couple of options. One is the Dolphin Discovery and the other is Dolphin Cove Cayman.
#8Camana Bay: This modern waterfront development offers shopping, dining, and entertainment options. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
#9Crystal Caves: If you prefer to explore caves, there are tours available at Cayman Crystal Caves. It is one of the island’s newest natural tourist attractions. Your guide will take you on a 45 minute walk through three different caves. Venture through the open-ceiling cave, the roots cave, and the lake cave. Here you’ll see the stalactite and stalagmite crystal structures and otherworldly formations made by single drops of water and the slow passage of time.
#10 Pedro St. James Castle: Explore the historic Pedro St. James Castle, known as the birthplace of democracy in the Cayman Islands. This restored former Great House, built in the 1800’s, offers a look back into the history an heritage of Grand Cayman. There are interactive and media exhibits and visitors can view the building filled with authentic period furniture and artifacts.
#11 Go to Hell: This uniquely named attraction located in the district of West Bay on Grand Cayman, is well known for a small patch of black limestone formations that can be seen poking out from its lush surroundings. After marveling at the field of black peaks, make sure to send your friends a postcard from Hell. I have not been here but from my understanding, there is not much to do here except to claim that you have been to Hell and back.
#13 Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park: If you're a nature enthusiast and love gardens like I do, you may want to visit the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park to see a variety of flora and fauna native to the Cayman Islands.
