LOW KEY HIDEWAY - A MUST VISIT IN CEDAR KEY, FLORIDA

If you're looking for a place that captures the quirky, laid-back spirit of Old Florida, put Low-Key Hideaway on your list when visiting Cedar Key.

Located along Florida's Gulf Coast, just outside the main part of Cedar Key, Low-Key Hideaway has long been known for its waterfront setting, colorful personality and anything-goes atmosphere. When we visited, we stopped in to check out this unusual little spot and quickly understood why it has become such a memorable part of the Cedar Key experience.

It isn't fancy—and that's exactly the point.

Low-Key Hideaway is the kind of place where you can sit by the water, watch the sunset, listen to live music and simply slow down for a while.

A Little Taste of Old Florida

One of the things I love about Cedar Key is that it doesn't feel like the typical Florida beach destination. There are no high-rise resorts or miles of crowded beaches. Instead, Cedar Key has a wonderfully relaxed, slightly quirky personality.

Low-Key Hideaway fits right into that atmosphere.

The property sits directly on the water, giving visitors beautiful views across the Gulf. During our visit, it was easy to see why this is such a popular spot to watch the sun go down.

There are places to sit outside, waterfront views and plenty of those little touches that make you feel like you've stumbled upon a place that isn't trying too hard to impress anyone.

And honestly, that's part of its charm.

We Didn't Stay Here—But We Almost Did

When we were planning our Cedar Key visit, we actually considered staying at Low-Key Hideaway.

The unique accommodations definitely caught our attention. Instead, we decided to stay at the Harbour Master Inn, which turned out to be a memorable place in its own right.

Even though we didn't stay at Low-Key Hideaway, we wanted to stop and experience the property for ourselves.

And I'm glad we did.

The Famous Tiki Bar

The Tiki Bar is probably the most recognizable part of Low-Key Hideaway.

Set right along the waterfront, it's the kind of place that immediately makes you want to sit down, order something cold and stay awhile.

The atmosphere is casual and eclectic, with a definite Old Florida and tropical-island feel. It's not the polished, resort-style tiki bar you might find at a large hotel. Instead, it has personality—and plenty of it.

The waterfront location also makes it a great place to watch the sunset.

There's something especially relaxing about sitting near the water while the sky changes colors over the Gulf. Cedar Key is known for its beautiful sunsets, and Low-Key Hideaway gives you a front-row seat.

Live Music and a Laid-Back Atmosphere

Another reason people come to Low-Key Hideaway is the live music.

The property continues to host live music throughout the week, creating the kind of casual atmosphere where locals and visitors mix together. The current schedule regularly includes music on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

This isn't a place where you have to dress up or make a big production out of your evening.

Grab a drink, find a seat, listen to the music and enjoy the view.

That's really the Low-Key Hideaway experience.

Food, Drinks and More

Things have changed at Low-Key Hideaway over the years, so if you're visiting based on an older blog post or recommendation, it's worth checking the current schedule before you go.

Today, food is provided through rotating food trucks rather than a traditional full-service restaurant. The property also offers a free Tiki Taxi on certain days, making it easier for guests to get around Cedar Key without driving.

The Tiki Bar remains the centerpiece, with drinks served right on the waterfront.

And if you're looking for something beyond the bar, the property now promotes activities such as boat tours and other ways to explore the Cedar Key area.

RV Camping on the Waterfront

For RV travelers, Low-Key Hideaway also offers a small waterfront RV campground.

The campground currently has nine sites, each with waterfront views and full hookups, including 30- and 50-amp service. The property is adults-only, with guests required to be 21 or older.

The small size is part of the appeal. This isn't a giant RV resort with hundreds of sites and endless amenities. It's a much more intimate experience, with the Tiki Bar and waterfront right there.

And if you're traveling with a dog, Low-Key Hideaway is pet friendly as well.

A Note About Our Visit

Because this is a travel story from one of our earlier visits to Cedar Key, I want to point out that Low-Key Hideaway has changed considerably since we were there.

The property was heavily impacted by Hurricanes Idalia and Helene, including significant damage to the motel. The business has continued to rebuild and evolve, with the current focus on the waterfront RV campground, Tiki Bar, live music and other experiences.

So if you're reading this because you're planning a trip today, be sure to check the current offerings before you go.

But the laid-back spirit that made this place memorable certainly hasn't disappeared.
