Bay Harbor & Coconut Bay Resort: A Cozy Key Largo Getaway

 

There are some places you stay while traveling that are nice, and then there are the places you find yourself wishing you could stay just a little longer. Bay Harbor & Coconut Bay Resort in Key Largo was one of those places for me.

This small bayfront resort sits on 2.5 acres of lush tropical landscaping, with cozy cottages tucked among the greenery. Everything felt peaceful and well cared for, and our cottage was clean, updated and just steps from the water.

It was the kind of place that made it easy to slow down and enjoy where we were.

A Cozy Cottage in Key Largo

One of the things I really liked about Bay Harbor & Coconut Bay Resort was the size of the property. It wasn't a huge resort where you had to walk forever to get anywhere. Instead, the cottages were scattered throughout beautifully landscaped grounds, giving the property a relaxed and almost homey feeling.

Our cottage was clean and comfortable, and having our own patio made it especially enjoyable. I loved being able to sit outside and take in the tropical surroundings without having to go anywhere.

Kayaking and Paddleboarding on the Bay

One of the perks included with our stay was the use of kayaks and paddleboards, and we definitely took advantage of it.

Being able to walk down to the water and head out onto the bay was such a fun part of our stay. It was also a great way to see the property and surrounding area from a completely different perspective.

I always enjoy places where you don't have to get in the car and drive somewhere just to find something to do. Here, the water was right there waiting for us.

Don't Miss the Sunset

The waterfront was also the perfect place to watch the sunset.

There was a dock and lounging area where guests could sit and enjoy the view. In the evening, people gradually gathered along the dock, and there was almost a quiet hush as everyone watched the sky change.

The colors that evening were beautiful—soft oranges and pinks spreading across the sky as the sun went down.
It was one of those simple travel moments that doesn't cost anything but ends up being one of the things you remember most..

My Favorite Part: Morning Scones and Coffee

As beautiful as the water and sunsets were, one of my favorite things about staying here was something much simpler: the morning scones and coffee.

I loved starting the day slowly, sitting at our personal patio table with my coffee and a scone while enjoying the tropical surroundings.

There is something about having nowhere you need to rush off to that makes a morning feel completely different.

And, of course, eventually the reality of checking out arrives.

I remember sitting there on our patio, enjoying my coffee and realizing that I really didn't want to leave. It was such a peaceful way to spend a morning, and I was genuinely sad that our stay was coming to an end.

Our Little Squirrel Visitor

We also had a little visitor during our stay—a squirrel who seemed to have decided that our cottage was a pretty good place to hang out.

The squirrel stayed near our door and seemed to follow us around the property. We eventually started talking with another guest, who told us that the squirrels were accustomed to visitors feeding them.

Apparently, some guests had gotten quite friendly with them.

One gentleman had purchased a bag of almonds and suddenly found himself surrounded by a whole crowd of squirrels!

Our little squirrel definitely added some personality to the stay. It was one of those unexpected little travel memories that makes a place more memorable.

Is Bay Harbor & Coconut Bay Resort Worth a Stay?

For me, yes.

What I loved most about Bay Harbor & Coconut Bay Resort was that it felt peaceful and personal rather than like a large, busy resort. The tropical landscaping, waterfront location, cozy cottages, complimentary kayaks and paddleboards, and beautiful sunsets all made it a memorable place to stay in Key Largo.

But honestly, it was the little things that stood out to me—the morning coffee and scones on the patio, spending time on the water, watching the sunset from the dock, and even our persistent little squirrel visitor.

It was a relaxing stop during our Florida Keys travels, and by the time we left, I was already wishing we had another morning to sit on that patio with a cup of coffee.

Sometimes those are the best places to stay—the ones you aren't quite ready to leave.
