Sarasota, Florida, has no shortage of beautiful places to explore, but there is something especially peaceful about spending a few hours surrounded by tropical plants, colorful flowers and towering trees. During my visit to Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, I found a beautiful combination of gardens, art and waterfront scenery right in the heart of Sarasota.

Located along Sarasota Bay, the gardens are much more than a collection of pretty flowers. There are tropical plants to discover around nearly every corner, interesting displays to explore and plenty of beautiful views along the way.

Exploring Marie Selby Botanical Gardens

One of the first things that stood out to me was just how lush the gardens were. The combination of tropical foliage, palms and flowering plants made the entire setting feel like a little escape from the city.

It gives the gardens a little more personality and makes the experience about more than simply looking at plants.

A Tropical Escape in Sarasota

Walking through Marie Selby Botanical Gardens feels like stepping into a much more tropical world, even though you're still in the middle of Sarasota.

There is something interesting to see in almost every direction—from unusual plants and flowers to towering palms and garden paths surrounded by greenery.

For me, one of the best parts of visiting a botanical garden is that you don't necessarily have to have a plan. You can simply wander, stop when something catches your eye and take your time.

That's exactly the kind of experience I had at Selby Gardens.
