If you're visiting Homestead, Florida, there are plenty of interesting places to explore, but one of the stops I think is worth making is Robert Is Here Fruit Stand.
This isn't your typical roadside fruit stand. It's been a Homestead tradition for decades and has grown into a fun place to stop, look around, grab something cold to drink, and pick up some fresh Florida produce and other goodies.
One of the things I enjoyed most about visiting was simply walking around and seeing everything they had to offer. There is so much more here than I expected!
A Little History
Robert Is Here got its start more than 60 years ago when Robert was just a young boy helping at his family's fruit stand.
Business wasn't going very well, so he put up a simple sign that said "Robert Is Here."
The name stuck, and over the years the little fruit stand grew into one of Homestead's best-known stops.
Today, Robert Is Here is especially known for its large selection of fresh fruits, including many tropical and unusual varieties that you may not find at your local grocery store.
Don't Skip the Milkshakes!
One of the first things I recommend doing when you arrive is getting a milkshake or smoothie.
There are so many flavors and combinations to choose from, and they make a great treat while you're walking around.
I would actually get one before you start shopping because you're probably going to spend some time looking around. There is a lot to see!
What You'll Find at Robert Is Here
Fresh and Tropical Fruits
Of course, the main attraction is the fruit.
You'll find Florida favorites such as oranges and key limes, along with tropical and more unusual fruits. Depending on the season, you may see things like dragon fruit and other varieties that you don't see every day.
If you enjoy trying local foods when you travel, this is a fun place to browse.
I always enjoy visiting places like this because you get to see some of the local flavors that make a destination different from home.
Jams, Salsas and More
There's much more than fresh fruit.
You can also find things like homemade jams, jellies, salsas, honey and other specialty items.
It's the kind of place where you may walk in thinking you're just going to look around and end up leaving with something you didn't plan to buy!
It's More Than Just a Fruit Stand
One thing that stood out to me about Robert Is Here was the atmosphere.
It has that old-fashioned roadside-stop feeling that you don't find everywhere anymore. It's a place where you can slow down, look around and enjoy something a little different from the usual tourist attractions.
And if you're traveling through the Homestead area, it makes a nice stop to add to your day.
A Family-Owned Homestead Tradition
Robert Is Here has remained a family-owned business, which is part of what gives the place its character.
After being around for so many years, it has become much more than a place to buy fruit. It has become part of the Homestead community and a destination for visitors traveling through South Florida.
I love finding places like this when we travel. They're often the stops that give you a better feel for an area than simply visiting the major attractions.
