Exploring Peanut Island, Florida: A Hidden Gem in the Sunshine State


Nestled just a short boat ride away from Riviera Beach, Florida, is a true hidden gem of the Sunshine State. This 80 acre, peanut-shaped island packs a punch with its rich history, beautiful beaches, and abundant recreational opportunities.



GETTING THERE

To reach Peanut Island you will need to take a water taxi or boat ride from Riviera Beach Marina. As you cruise through the blue waters, you'll catch glimpses of Palm Beach's luxurious estates and sailboats gliding across the Intracoastal Waterway.

History and Culture

Peanut Island isn't just a pretty beach spot; it's steeped in history. Originally created in 1918 as a dredging byproduct, it gained fame during the Cold War as a secret Cold War fallout shelter for President John F. Kennedy. Today, you can explore the bunker and learn about its fascinating role in American history.


Outdoor Adventure

For nature enthusiasts and adventurers, Peanut Island offers ample opportunities to explore. Snorkelers and divers flock to its clear waters, discovering vibrant marine life and remnants of old shipwrecks. Picnic areas shaded by coconut palms invite relaxation, while hiking trails meander through native flora, offering panoramic views of the Intracoastal and nearby Palm Beach.

GENERAL VISITOR INFORMATION


ALCOHOL
Alcohol possession is restricted to the permitted campground area. For the safety of all visitors, please help us avoid broken glass by properly disposing of glass containers in trash cans.

BALLOONS
​​The use of balloons is prohibited in the park. 

FOOD SERVICE/VENDING

There is no food service, vending, or commercial sales of any kind available in the park. Visitors are advised to bring to the island whatever food and beverages they require for their visit. For your comfort and convenience, water fountains are available at each of our three (3) restrooms.

GRILLS AND OPEN FIRES

Small barbecue grills are permitted for cooking on the beach. Please ask staff to help you dispose of your hot coals. Open fires are prohibited.

NOISE

No person shall make such loud, excessive, unnecessary noise so as to create a nuisance. Noise is considered a nuisance where it produces actual physical discomfort or annoyance to persons of ordinary sensibilities.

PEDESTRIAN PATHWAYS
Rollerblades, skates, skateboards, bikes, scooters, or motorized vehicles are not permitted on the island.

PETS
Domesticated animals are welcome in designated areas. For your safety and consideration of others, please keep all pets on a leash at all times at a distance not greater than six (6) feet from their handler, pick up their droppings, and provide for their comfort with shade and water.
