One of the unexpected perks of our stay at La Siesta Resort & Villas in Islamorada was that we weren't limited to just one resort.
At the time of our visit, La Siesta, Amara Cay Resort, and Postcard Inn Beach Resort were sister properties, and guests could enjoy the amenities at all three. Although we slept at La Siesta, we spent quite a bit of time at Amara Cay Resort, which gave us a chance to enjoy another beautiful waterfront property without changing hotels.
And Amara Cay had a very different feel from La Siesta.

A Beautiful Islamorada Location
One of the first things you'll notice about Amara Cay is its setting.
The resort sits directly along the water, surrounded by swaying palm trees and the unmistakable turquoise-blue colors of the Florida Keys. The tropical landscape gives the property that relaxed island feel that makes Islamorada such a fun place to visit.
And because you're right on the Overseas Highway, Amara Cay makes a convenient home base for exploring the area. You can head out for a day of sightseeing, fishing, shopping, or exploring the nearby Keys and then come back to the resort to relax.
Staying at Amara Cay Resort
The accommodations at Amara Cay are designed with a relaxed, tropical feel that fits right in with the Florida Keys.
Guest rooms and suites offer comfortable spaces to unwind after a day spent exploring. Depending on the room you choose, you may also have views of the water or the resort's tropical surroundings.
For me, one of the biggest draws of staying at a Keys resort like this isn't just the room—it's being able to step outside and immediately feel like you're on vacation.
There's something about waking up surrounded by palm trees, sunshine, and water that makes it very easy to leave everyday life behind.
Dining at Amara Cay
You don't have to leave the resort every time you're hungry, either.
Amara Cay has dining options right on the property, including Oltremare Ristorante and Sparrows Rum Bar.
Oltremare offers a more traditional dining experience, while Sparrows is a great spot to settle in with a tropical drink and enjoy the relaxed Keys atmosphere.
And honestly, that's part of the appeal of a resort stay. After a full day of exploring, it's nice to have somewhere close by where you can grab dinner or a drink without getting back in the car.
Enjoy the Water and the Outdoors
Of course, one of the biggest reasons to visit the Florida Keys is to spend time outside.
At Amara Cay, you'll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the waterfront setting. Depending on your plans, you can spend your time relaxing by the water, enjoying the beach area, or getting out on the water for activities such as paddleboarding, snorkeling, kayaking, or fishing.
Islamorada is especially well known for its connection to the water and its fishing culture, so this is a great destination if you're the type of traveler who would rather be outside than inside.
And if you're not looking for an action-packed vacation, that's perfectly fine, too.
Sometimes the best vacation activity is finding a comfortable spot, enjoying the view, and letting the afternoon disappear.
A Relaxing Florida Keys Escape
What I like about the idea of staying somewhere like Amara Cay is that you can make your trip as busy—or as relaxing—as you want.
Spend the day exploring Islamorada and the surrounding Florida Keys, then return to the resort for some downtime. Or skip the sightseeing altogether and spend your day enjoying the resort and the beautiful waterfront setting.
That's the beauty of the Florida Keys. You don't always need a packed itinerary.
Sometimes it's enough to have sunshine, palm trees, blue water, and nowhere you need to be.
