CARNIVAL CRUISE PORT ~ COZUMEL, MEXICO

Walking to the port
CRUISE PORT IN COZUMEL

Cozumel is Mexico's largest Caribbean island (and its most populated) , and it is a major cruise port that welcomes more than one million cruise passengers each year and as many as eight ships per day.

This was my second visit to Cozumel and it was as beautiful this time as it was the last time.  On my first visit (you can read about it HERE) we walked to a nearby town and hung out around the port.  This time, we took a taxi to a nearby resort, the Iberostar Resort.

Disembarking in Mexico

On my first visit to Cozumel, we exited the ship and made our way to the port quickly and without any issues.  This time, we had to have our photo ID and place all of our bags close to the ground so the dog could sniff them.

We did not have to do this on our second trip off the ship later in the day.

If you are trying to save money on your cruise, I would suggest hanging out in port in Cozumel.  Yes, it's a lot of shops vying for you money but there are also some nice chairs on the beach where you can relax if you don't want to spend the day shopping.

There are also taxis outside of the Carnival port area with prices clearly posted.  This is a much cheaper option than booking through the cruise ship.

For example, one excursion from carnival may run $99 per person but you can book the same excursion through a third party company or take a taxi to your destination chose and pay the resort directly.  The same $99 excurision cost us $70 each and also included breakfast.  That's a $30 savings which may not sound like much, but a group of five (like our party) saved a total $150!

Currency

Unlike traveling to Europe, you can use American dollars to make purchases in Cozumel.

Attractions
Cozumel is one port of call that pretty much has something for everyone. As you as you arrive in port, you will a variety of shopping and restaurants, or you can take a cab to the destination of your choice. Spend some time on line before you leave and check out all of your options. You can go to an all inclusive resort, swim with dolphins, or visit Mayan ruins.

Cozumel Beaches Are Public

Yes, the beaches are public and you are welcome to stroll along any beach, even if it's in front of a swanky hotel. With that being said, I have found that is worth it to pay a minimal fee (some as low as $10) and be allowed to use the beach chairs and facilities. Even better, purchase an all inclusive package and enjoy all the food and drinks at no extra charge.

No hablas espaƱol?

No problem. Most people speak some English since they are dealing with millions of American tourist each year. Of course, if you are dying to try out your Spanish, go ahead. It's great practice for you next visit.
