During our visit to Cedar Key, Florida, we spent a night at Harbour Master Suites, right on Dock Street overlooking the water. If you're looking for a modern chain hotel with all the usual amenities, this probably isn't it. But if you enjoy places with personality, history, and a distinctly Old Florida feel, Harbour Master Suites is a memorable place to stay.
The building is older and doesn't have the polished look of a newer upscale hotel, but honestly, I think that's part of its charm. It felt completely at home in Cedar Key, and our stay was relaxing, comfortable, and unlike many other places we've visited.
We stayed in The Garden, a second-floor water-view suite in the Harbour Master building. It was one of the larger accommodations and gave us plenty of room to relax during our stay.
One of my favorite features was the private screened balcony overlooking the water. Sitting outside and watching the harbor was the perfect way to slow down and enjoy Cedar Key.
The suite included:
- A pillow-top king-size bed
- Separate living and dining areas
- Full-size refrigerator
- Microwave
- Toaster oven
- Coffee maker
- Shower/tub combination
- Private screened balcony
- Water views
Having the extra living space and small kitchen area made the room feel more like a little apartment than a traditional hotel room.
A Waterfront Location
One of the biggest advantages of Harbour Master Suites is its location.
The property sits directly on Dock Street, close to the waterfront, marina, restaurants, shops, and Cedar Key's city pier. The area is very walkable, so you can park your car and spend much of your visit exploring on foot.
And, of course, being right on the water means you get to experience one of the best parts of Cedar Key without having to go anywhere.
There's something relaxing about sitting on a balcony and watching the boats, birds, changing tides, and the activity around the harbor.
More Than Just a Place to Sleep
What I remember most about Harbour Master Suites isn't necessarily the room itself. It was the character of the place.
Cedar Key is a small fishing village with a laid-back, Old Florida atmosphere, and Harbour Master fits right into that setting. The property has individually decorated accommodations rather than cookie-cutter hotel rooms, and the waterfront setting gives it a personality that you simply don't get at a typical chain hotel.
There is also a courtyard garden and fountain, along with the Dilly Dally Gally shop located in the building. The property is surrounded by the restaurants, shops, marina, and waterfront activities that make Cedar Key such a relaxing getaway.
