Visitor’s Guide to St. George Island State Park

 

One of the best things about St. George Island State Park is how easy it is to slow down and enjoy the outdoors. Whether you want to spend the day relaxing on the beach, exploring the trails, watching for wildlife, or getting out on the water, there is plenty to keep you busy without making the park feel crowded or overly developed.

Mexico Beach, Florida: A Quiet Gulf Coast Escape

 

If you’re looking for a Florida beach town where life moves a little slower, Mexico Beach may be just what you’re looking for.

Located along Florida’s Gulf Coast in the Panhandle, Mexico Beach is the kind of place that invites you to put your schedule aside for a while. There are beautiful stretches of white sand, clear Gulf waters, spectacular sunsets, and a small-town atmosphere that feels very different from some of Florida’s busier beach destinations.

I have visited Mexico Beach twice, and both visits reminded me of what I enjoy most about Florida’s smaller coastal communities—the opportunity to simply slow down and enjoy being near the water.

DISCOVERING WAKULLA SPRINGS STATE PARK

Tucked away in Florida's Panhandle, not far from Tallahassee, Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park feels like a completely different side of Florida.

There are no theme-park crowds or high-rise resorts here. Instead, you'll find enormous cypress trees, clear spring water, abundant wildlife, and a historic lodge that seems to belong to another era.

Wakulla Springs is home to one of the largest and deepest freshwater springs in the world, and the park has been attracting visitors for generations. It is the kind of place where you can spend a few hours exploring, swimming, watching wildlife, or simply sitting beneath the trees and enjoying a slower pace.

For me, though, one of the most memorable parts of visiting Wakulla Springs was the feeling that I had stepped back in time.

BLACKWATER RIVER STATE PARK, FLORIDA: A NATURE LOVER'S PARADISE

 

If you're looking for a beautiful place to get away from the crowds and enjoy some of Florida's natural beauty, Blackwater River State Park is definitely worth adding to your list.

Located in Florida's Panhandle near Milton, Blackwater River State Park is centered around the beautiful Blackwater River, where dark, tannin-stained water flows over a surprisingly bright white sandy bottom. The contrast between the tea-colored water, white sand, and surrounding pine forest makes this one of those places that feels completely different from the Florida beaches most people picture.

It's an especially beautiful spot for anyone who enjoys nature, hiking, swimming, tubing, paddling, or simply spending a relaxing day outdoors.
