Ponce de Leon Springs State Park, Florida: Crystal-Clear Water in the Panhandle

 

Ponce de Leon Springs State Park was another stop on our trip exploring the freshwater springs of Northwest Florida. Located in the small town of Ponce de Leon in the Florida Panhandle, this spring is easy to visit and makes a great addition to a Northwest Florida springs road trip.

Compared with some of the more natural, undeveloped springs we visited, Ponce de Leon Springs has a more traditional state park feel. The main spring is easily accessible, with a developed swimming area, picnic facilities and short nature trails.

Pitt and Sylvan Springs, Florida: Two Beautiful Springs Along Econfina Creek

While exploring the freshwater springs of Northwest Florida, we stopped at Pitt and Sylvan Springs, a beautiful little recreation area tucked along Econfina Creek near Youngstown, Florida.

This was one of several springs we visited on this trip, and one of the things I loved about traveling through this part of Florida was discovering just how many springs are hidden along the creeks and backroads. Pitt and Sylvan Springs are especially nice because you can see more than one spring without having to drive to another location.

Hightower Springs, Florida: A Quiet Winter Visit to a Beautiful Natural Spring

Florida has plenty of famous springs, but some of my favorite discoveries have been the smaller places that we almost could have missed. Hightower Springs, located near Vernon in the Florida Panhandle, was one of those stops.

We visited in January, so the trees were bare and the landscape didn't have the lush green look you might expect from Florida. But none of that mattered once we saw the water. It was incredibly clear, with beautiful shades of blue and green that stood out against the winter landscape.

Florida is famous for its beautiful springs, and some of the most impressive are tucked away in the state's northern counties. Morrison Springs, located near Ponce de Leon in Florida's Panhandle, is one of those places.

With its large, crystal-clear spring pool surrounded by trees and natural scenery, Morrison Springs is a popular destination for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and especially scuba diving.

Silver Springs State Park: Exploring One of Florida’s Most Famous Springs

 

Silver Springs State Park is home to one of Florida’s most famous natural wonders — a breathtaking spring where crystal-clear water rises from the Floridan aquifer and flows into the Silver River.

More than 30 springs have been documented in the upper Silver River, creating an incredible underwater world filled with limestone formations, fish, aquatic plants, and wildlife. The water is remarkably clear, making it possible to see beneath the surface in a way that is difficult to find anywhere else.

Juniper Springs: A Florida Oasis in the Ocala National Forest

 

If you're looking for a side of Florida that feels worlds away from crowded beaches and busy tourist attractions, Juniper Springs is a place worth adding to your travel list.

Tucked inside the Ocala National Forest, Juniper Springs is one of Florida's most beautiful natural spring areas. Surrounded by towering trees, palms, lush vegetation, and the sandy landscape of the Ocala National Forest, the spring creates a peaceful oasis that feels surprisingly remote.

And that's what I love about places like this. Florida is known for its beaches, theme parks, and bustling cities, but there is another side of the state waiting to be explored.

Juniper Springs is a wonderful place to slow down, enjoy the outdoors, and experience some of Florida's incredible natural beauty.

Exploring Ginnie Springs: A Natural Escape in Florida

 

If you’re looking for a beautiful place to experience some of Florida’s famous spring water, Ginnie Springs near High Springs is definitely worth putting on your list.

Ginnie Springs is known for its incredibly clear, turquoise water, peaceful river views, and its popularity with swimmers, snorkelers, kayakers, tubers, and scuba divers.

We visited in January, and it was a much quieter time to see the springs. There weren’t many campers around during our visit, but we did see several scuba divers exploring the crystal-clear water.

Even though we weren’t there during the busy summer season, it was easy to see why Ginnie Springs is such a popular destination.

Kelly Park & Rock Springs: A Crystal-Clear Florida Escape

 

Tucked away in Apopka, Florida, just northwest of Orlando, Kelly Park is one of those places that reminds you there is so much more to Florida than theme parks and busy beaches.

The park's centerpiece is Rock Springs, a beautiful natural spring where crystal-clear water flows through a lush, shaded landscape before making its way toward the Wekiva River. With cool, refreshing water, towering trees, and plenty of opportunities to slow down and enjoy the outdoors, Kelly Park makes a wonderful day trip for anyone looking for a more natural side of Central Florida.

Whether you come to float down the spring run, swim in the clear water, enjoy a picnic, or explore the surrounding trails, Kelly Park offers a completely different kind of Florida experience.

Rainbow Springs State Park: Crystal-Clear Water and Old Florida Charm

 

Nestled in the rolling countryside near Dunnellon, Florida, Rainbow Springs State Park is one of those places that feels a little different from the Florida you usually picture. Instead of crowded beaches and busy attractions, here you find crystal-clear spring water, shady trails, lush gardens, and the peaceful Rainbow River flowing through the landscape.

I visited Rainbow Springs to see this beautiful part of Florida for myself, and it turned out to be a wonderful place to slow down and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

Three Sisters Springs: Visiting the Manatees in Crystal River, Florida

Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River, Florida, was one of the most memorable stops on our road trip. The water was unbelievably clear and beautiful, but what made the visit truly special was seeing the manatees that come to the warm spring waters during the cooler months.

Three Sisters Springs is part of the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge, which was established specifically to protect habitat for the Florida manatee. The refuge also provides opportunities for wildlife viewing, hiking, photography, paddling, and exploring the beautiful spring environment.
